[Movies] Asteroids Is Coming To The Big Screen
Posted by Larry Csonka on 07.02.2009
Another video game adaptation…
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios has won the bidding war for the rights to the 1979 classic video game, Asteroids. Matthew Lopez (Bedtime Stories, Race to Witch Mountain) is set to write the script, Lorenzo di Bonaventura (GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) will produce the film.
I hope they have the game music playing the ENTIRE movie. That would be awesome.
And lasers could make Pew!Pew! sound. That would also be awesome.
I guarantee you a ham sandwich will be better than this movie.

How in the hell do you film a movie based on "Asteroids?" What next, a movie based on "Galaxian" dealing with the tragic reality of suicidal aliens? Give me a break.

Armageddon 2 anyone?

Wait...What? This is almost as dumb as saying they were going to make a movie about "Pong". This has fail written all over it unless it's a parody or something.

Next up will be Pong: The Movie, and Bejewelled: This Time It's Personal.

Well, if Robert Downey Jr. plays the saucer then I'm in.....

Let me guess the plot line. Earth in trouble because of giant asteroids, send someone up to blow em up, throw in a eyefuck of cg effects. Ta-da, Hollywood's past decade of movies.

With the deep storyline in the videogame, the movie basically writes itself.

I'd be all about a Dragon's Lair movie.

you meant to write "sounds like two Hollywood movies from a decade ago"

They do realize that the original Super Mario Bros. plot looks epic compared to Asteroids, right?

Hysterical Bro..

Bullshit. They're just tacking on a brand name to some generic sci-fi script.

Will you Three stop giving them ideas... I mean everyone knows this is going to blow chunks, but damn if they make a pong movie or a bejewelled movie i'm writing to Larry and the rest of the web masters at 411 and asking the entire site be shut down or at least the movie comment section. I'm sure on some random message board someone commented about Devistator having big balls in the "next" transformers movie and Bay read it and now Devistator can literally be neutered.

Hey I'll take that ham sandwich! The movie will have enough cheese, ba-doom- pa! Hey while we're at it how about Frogger??
Posted By: the dude (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:39 PM
Gah! Even the name 'Asteroids' has a generic straight to DVD starring a Baldwin brother feel about it! Surely we have had our fill of life ending asteroid films with Deep Impact & Armageddon...how different can this new film be?! While they are at it why don't they make a Tetris game too! It can be about the fall of Soviet Russia!

And Hollywood wonders why no one sees movies unless it's giant robots kicking the crap out of each other.

Now I can finally die after I see this movie because it means I have finally seen everything there is to see on God's Green Earth...
"Asteroids" as in a new movie as in the game I played on the old 2600 system?! WTF...

Ha! Hope they next make a movie based on the Atari 'ET' game!
Could be legal issues tho...

Someone needs to come and hear my life.... that would be the BEST movie...and there would be lotsa boobies exposed!!!!

A script for fuckin' what? In the game you shoot asteroids, thust, and hyperspace. I smell a blockbuster.

Actually Frogger would make a fun animated kid's film. The basic lost animal trying to get home plot.

Well it will be better then Armageddon. I think "let's just build a big space ship with powerful lasers to go up and blast the shit out of it personally and then take care of all those fragments as well. Hell it may even blow up some aliens while up there!" is a much better idea.
Lol. But we all know that the real money is in the Pac Man movie. Oh no, wait I have an idea: Pac-Man Vs Q-Bert!
Of course as silly as it all sounds I have to remember that they are making a film of Battleships.
